Hellooooo!

I’m Shira W Rose—a photographic artist and advocate for women. In the traditional world of photography, perhaps one would call me a Fine Art Portrait Photographer for Women. And yes, that describes some of what we create together. But honestly? It doesn’t quite explain what happens when we meet.

You might be telling me a story, laughing about something, or explaining why being photographed makes you nervous. And while I’m listening, my mind is doing this other thing, too: noticing how beautiful you are. The way you speak. An expression. Something about you that makes you extraordinary to me. You may not think twice about it. You may never have thought of it as beautiful. But there I am, already imagining how to photograph it.

That is what I want to show you. What I see when I look at you.

Perhaps you’ve been telling yourself you need to wait. Until you lose the weight, find the perfect outfit, or feel entirely confident.

No ma’am. No way. I am not aligned with that way of thinking.

My ideal client is a woman who is ready to see herself now. For some, it’s remembering who she is beneath all the noise. For others, it’s seeing herself for the very first time.

Although it is a photoshoot, it feels more like hanging out with someone who gets you—and you happen to be the center of attention. Your only job is to be present for yourself. Breathing, laughing, dancing, and sometimes even crying. Letting things go.

There is guidance, and there is room to play. A flowing gown, bare skin, tousled hair. Full-glam or somewhere messy in between. You get to show up as you. Not a character. Not your most perfect self. Not your well-behaved self. You. All of you. All versions of you.

This is Healing Portraiture. A reintroduction to yourself. And then, during our time together, I turn the camera around to show you. It’s almost like holding up a mirror—you get a glimpse of how I see you. And something in that photograph feels familiar. You recognize yourself.

Where We Can Create Together

• The Raleigh–Durham Studio: My primary creative sanctuary based in North Carolina for intimate feminine portraiture, editorial boudoir, maternity, and beauty.

• The Charleston Connection: Charleston has me completely in its clutches—the spirit, the allure, the history. The backdrops inspire me at levels I do not have the space on this page to fully express. It has become my secondary shoot location, and trust me, I hate saying secondary because there is nothing second about Charleston, South Carolina. It is a space that perhaps one day will be home. But for now? It is a space I will drop everything to create a meaningful shoot canvas for a fellow queen ready to be seen.

• Individual and group women’s retreats give us more time together—to slow down, create, and explore this return to yourself. I also accept select private portrait commissions worldwide.
